Daan Vander Steene (born 1978) has been the managing director of NTGent since September 2020 and together with artistic director Milo Rau, leads the operations and further development of NTGent.
Daan trained as an educator before specialising in social profit management and project management. As chief of the cabinet to alderman Resul Tapmaz and to former mayor, Daniël Termont, within the city of Ghent, he perfected his expertise as a manager in public and social services. Innovative leadership is, to him, key in outlining a sustainable business policy. He is a citizen of Ghent by birth, a culture lover and Buffalo supporter, with a passion for social justice.
“NTGent aspires to be an open house for the audience and for theatre makers. We try to achieve this by not only creating and hosting performances, but also by inviting as many people as possible to participate in and reflect on our projects. We also offer development opportunities to those artists with whom we create the performances. Our theatre is anchored in Ghent, in our beloved city, and although we offer a powerful urban story, we hope this story translates so we can tour internationally. Thanks to our enthusiastic team, we are proud of what we already mean to Ghent, to Flanders, and to the world."
