After his studies at the Amsterdam Theatre School, since 1980 he has worked as an actor with various companies in Flanders and the Netherlands: Globe, Art and Pro, Toneelgroep Amsterdam, Het Zuidelijk Toneel, Het Nationale Toneel, Het Toneelhuis, NTGent, Malpertuis, De Tijd, Het Arsenaal, Carrousel, Centrum, Walpurgis, Lod, Transparant, Zeeland Nazomer Festival, among others.

Han made Stel Spinoza in 2019; a performance in the Philosophers series of Stefaan van Brabant. He directed at the Zeeland Nazomer Festival and Het Toneelhuis. In 1995 he won the Arlecchino for Thersites in Troiilus and Cressida, Nationale Toneel.

He worked as an acting teacher at the Theaterschool Amsterdam, the Toneelacademie Maastricht, Studio Herman Teirlinck and the Kleinkunstafdeling Artesis Hogeschool.

Kerckhoffs played leading and supporting roles in various television series and films, such as Baantjer, Bij Nader Inzien, Spoorloos, Pleidooi, Oud Geld, Retour Den Haag, 9 Dagen vd Gier, Waltz, Annie MG, According to Robert, According to Jacqueline and De fractie.

He is married to Els Dottermans and has two sons.
