Sara De Bosschere

Sara De Bosschere made her stage debut on the professional circuit as a child at the then Stadstheater of Antwerp (The Secret Memoirs of E.M.J, O'Neill). At the age of 16, she starred at De Tijd directed by Lucas Vandervost in 'frúhlingserwachen' (Wedekind).

After studying at the Antwerp Conservatory (1994), she founded the theatre company De Roovers with three other actors. Since then, De Roovers has been a collective with a permanent core of four actors/makers that have been present in the theatre landscape for 25 years and plays successful shows at home and abroad. The makers mainly work without a director and involve many guest actors in their performances. In each making process, the actors delve into the text material, dramaturgy and staging together. De Roovers mainly performs text theatre starting from a wide repertoire of classical - Shakespeare, Schiller, Chekhov, Buchner, Aischylos, and Miller - to more contemporary writers such as Dennis Potter, Paul Auster, Paul Verrept, and Judith Herzberg. The Roovers perform mainly on the mainstream adult circuit but have also made children's shows, musical theatre, and a number of special location projects.

Besides the Roovers, Sara De Bosschere also works at companies such as Het Toneelhuis, society discordia, Bloet, De Tijd, Toneelgroep Amsterdam, IIPM, and NTGent. She often appears on international stages.

The collaboration with society discordia and Jan de Corte was very decisive for her development. Work with directors such as Johan Simons, Gerardjan Rijnders, Josse De Pauw, Sam Bogaerts, Lucas Vandervost, and Peter Van Kraaij also occupies an important place in her career. In 2013, an intense - to the present day - collaboration with Milo Rau began. She collaborated on his first Belgian creation (Civil Wars, Kunstenfestivaldesarts 2014). This performance toured worldwide for more than two years and won awards at several international festivals (Politik im Freientheater in Freiburg, Performance of the year in Barcelona, etc.) She is currently on tour with Raus La Reprise (Kunstenfestivaldesarts 2018). This internationally lauded performance (Prix de la Critique France, Theatertreffen Berlin and Theaterfestival 2019) was performed in Europe, South America, Australia, and Asia.

Furthermore, Sara has also starred in films such as 'De Helaasheid der Dingen'  and 'Belgica'  (Felix Van Groeningen), 'Een ander zijn geluk'  (Fien Troch) 'Linkeroever' , 'Dirty Mind'  and 'Wasteland'  (Pieter Van Hees), 'De vijver'  (Jeroen Dumoulin,) 'Exit'  (Boris Paval Conen - Gouden Kalf 2013), 'Litlle black spiders'  ( Patrice Toye) and the recently released concert film 'Lebenslicht'  (Clara Pons, with live music performance by Phillipe Herreweghe/Collegium Vocale). She also appeared as a guest in television series such as 'Code 37'  (Tim Mielandts), 'De Ronde'  and 'Call Boys'  (Jan Eelen) 'Aspe' , 'De gang'  van Jan de Lichte (Robert Pront), and 'Undercover'  (Frank Devos/Eshref Reybroek). She was part of the regular core of the Emmy Award-winning comedy television series 'What If?' . She also regularly teaches as a guest lecturer at the drama schools of Antwerp, Brussels and Ghent.

Sara De Bosschere has a wide network not only artistically but also in the policy field. She is regularly invited for panel discussions related to performing arts policy, she has been involved several times in landscape drawing at sector level and is active in such workings as Het Kunstenpunt and Oko. From 2013 to 2017, she was also part of the Flemish Government's performing arts assessment committee, and she currently sits on the board of directors of De Theatermaker and Theater aan Zee.
