Farewell to Eva Bal (1938-2021)| 10 May 2021
When the city of Ghent wasn’t yet a hotbed for the performing arts, let alone an international player, you were already shaking the tree.
With Dutch bravura and eloquence, you built an artistic operation in which the child is central. A low-threshold art practice – like a warm bath with emancipatory powers. With lots of music and room for individual improvisation.
It led, via the Speelteater Gent, to the opening of the Kopergietery – the art house as we know and appreciate it today. But above all, in this city you have forever broadened our minds: to look beyond art disciplines and age and country borders.
You were a true pioneer, and we will miss you.
Thank you for everything.
The team of NTGent.
