Brideshead Revisited
"Brideshead Revisited" by Evelyn Waugh, once a cult classic, seems to have fallen into obscurity nowadays, though it is considered one of the most romantic and Anglophile novels ever written.
The book follows the story of Charles Ryder, a student at the beginning of the 20th century, who becomes enchanted by the aristocratic Flyte family during a summer at their estate, where he falls in love with both son Sebastian and daughter Julia Flyte.
"A thrilling dialogue about love."NRC
After the summer and with the rise of fascism, Charles is confronted with adulthood, where the freedom of his youthful days never returns. What seemed like the beginning of a liberal life turns out to be the start of a cynical existence, where his hopes for happiness are dashed.
Inspired by Waugh's own longing for youthful happiness, the novel is used by De Warme Winkel as a basis for a profound analysis of love and identity, supported by live music and vivid memories.
