Since prehistoric times, Baubo has turned up in rock drawings, bone figurines and stories. The figures have accentuated vaginas and spread legs, and are usually in the company of bulls, turtles and birds. Baubo is associated with regeneration, magic and female sexuality. In Greek mythology, the figure appears as the wet nurse of Dionysus and the handmaiden of Demeter.
For Hi Baubo the artist Hannah De Meyer follows the lead of this obscure and mythological figure. De Meyer composed a new text which she stages together with several performers. Language and movement are uniquely interwoven.
