Lenz - Jacques Osinski

Lenz 14 11 2017 195 Web Pierre Grosbois
Lenz is an unfinished 1836 novella by Georg Büchner about the deteriorating mental health of the writer, translator and Goethe devotee Jakob Lenz.

Büchner based his poignant story on letters from Lenz himself and notes from the clergyman Johann Oberlin, who took care of Lenz when he was ill. Büchner’s experimental novella is regarded as a forerunner of modernism and it had enormous influence on later writers. It has been filmed several times and Wolfgang Rihm transformed it into a successful chamber opera.
In the autumn of 2017, the French director Jacques Osinski and his Compagnie L’Aurore boréale created a theatre monologue for the Flemish actor Johan Leysen, who lives in Paris. He is now presenting a Dutch version of it for NTGent and will join the ensemble in the 2018–2019 season.
