Together with his cosmopolitan, collective Koon Theater Group, the Syrian director Ossama Halal presents a free adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s short story The Story of a Mother.

He describes the experiences of families in the war-torn countries of the Middle East and talks about the start of a quest by a mother whose child has been snatched from her by death. Each stage of her journey is characterized by mysteries and trials that cause her to give up something that belongs to her, as a sacrifice or a renunciation.

As is often the case in his work, Ossama Halal uses symbolic motifs to shape his story. This time he also works with puppets as a medium, dressed in the colours of Sufism, to accompany this mother on her journey to the gardens of the dead.
