Change the world, start with education! The citizens, theatre makers, activists and artists of tomorrow are now in school. Flemish Minister of Education Ben Weyts recently called them 'start-up capital'. What do young people themselves think of such a description? They inherit social inequality and ecological crises from the older generations. What learning methods and content could help them to nevertheless shape a resilient future?

Parents and children, pupils and teachers, students and lecturers, school leavers and dissidents all unite for this vibrant day of reflection! Etcetera, the magazine for performing arts, and NTGent invite you to Theater Minnemeers that will transform in a few hours from a school to a gyrokinesis studio, a restaurant and a people's assembly. Check out the packed programme below and register for each part of the day you want to join!

PROGRAMME

⏱ 3PM: FIRST ROUND OF SPEEDDATES

⏱ 3:15PM: THEATRE STUDENTS SPEAK UP

How do students themselves look at current education in performing arts? Can they still relate to the teaching content and methods? Is their education sufficiently in touch with society? Students from 4 theatre schools (RITCS, Conservatory, LUCA and KASK) present 4 statements. Followed by a discussion in groups. Hosted by Charlotte De Somviele (Etcetera).

⏱ 4:45PM: GYROKINESIS

Gyrokinesis is a movement technique that engages the whole body, opens up energy pathways and stimulates the nervous system. Don't forget to wear something sporty. We take care of yoga mats and changing rooms. Session led by Keyna Nara.

⏱ 5:30PM: SCHOOL OF RESISTANCE: THE ART OF ASSEMBLY

Artists and theatre makers like to set up assemblies. How do these take shape in the arts and how do they differ from assemblies in the public space? The NTGent debate series School of Resistance and The Art of Assembly join forces for a discussion on the ambiguous relationship between art and activism.

Panellists are Jay Jordan, Isabelle Frémeaux (ZAD Notre-Dame-des-Landes) and Milo Rau (NTGent). Hosted by Florian Malzacher (ENG).

⏱ 7PM: FOOD WASTE DINER DELUXE

Enjoy a vegetarian dinner based on food waste (5 euros only)!

8PM: SECOND ROUND OF SPEEDDATES

⏱ 8:15PM: PEOPLE'S ASSEMBLY: 'WHAT IS RESILIENT EDUCATION?'

A group of committed students from Ghent recently started the campaign Het Duurzaamheidsdecanaat (The Decanate of Sustainability). For this People's Assembly, we focus on the central question of their campaign: How can higher, secondary and primary education better prepare young people for the complex challenges of today and tomorrow? As there are: the biodiversity and climate crisis, the growing gap between rich and poor, and between the practically and theoretically trained,...?

The audience is divided into smaller discussion groups. Facilitators ensure that everyone is heard.

Hosted by Het Duurzaamheidsdecanaat. Guided by a dozen facilitators (with thanks to Extinction Rebellion Ghent and Victoria Deluxe).
