Utopera - Haider Al Timimi & Sarah Eisa
A Belgian-Iraqi architect is invited to create an opera house out of the rubble of Baghdad. His main source of inspiration is Zaha Hadid, the Iraqi architect who realized large-scale and futuristic buildings worldwide, free from traditional constraints and firmly focused and futuristic buildings worldwide, free from traditional constraints and firmly focused on the future. However, the building collapses even before the opera can be inaugurated. The stones from which it was built carry them to destruction, but their minds do not allow themselves to be stopped. Not before they have found a number of answers. Why does a country at war want to outdo the highest tower in the world? Is it better to build on a foundation of history than on a wasteland? Why is the Castle of the Counts in Ghent not demolished to make room for social housing? And if Palmyra is destroyed by fundamentalists, are our tears for the people or for the monuments?
UTOPERA is a poetic performance in which music, song, movement and staging a central role.
