The starting point is Anton Chekhov's The Seagull  (1896), one of the greatest and most tender theatre texts in literary history about a searching youth with new ideas and an older generation that feels threatened by them. A tale of yearning for the past and longing for a free life; told from the perspective of three different generations. Love and longing as devastating driving forces during a family reunion. A comedy in four acts, as the Russian writer himself called it.

“We need new forms, and if we don't get them, we'd rather have nothing at all”
Konstantin Gavrilovitsj Trepljov - Character from 'The Seagull'

[meeuw]  is an encounter with performers from the Flemish deaf community, with Flemish Sign Language as mother tongue. The mixed cast comprises three deaf and five hearing performers: Yousra Boukantar, Sofie Decleir, Tom Dewispelaere, Lobke Leirens, Lut Reysen, Willy Thomas, Serge Vlerick and Yana Wuytens. Together, they search for a common language: the gesture.
