Werken en Dagen
For their new theatre show, FC Bergman takes the title from a text from 700 BC, by the Greek poet Hesiodos. He exhorts his brother to work the land, following the rhythm of the seasons.
The seasons are the guide for FC Bergman's next creation. Jazz musician Joachim Badenhorst creates and plays his own version of Antonio Vivaldi's Le Quattro Stagioni. Thus, the company revisits one of their favourite themes: metamorphosis. Whereas in The Sheep Song it was still perverse and an intrusion into the course of things, now FC Bergman wants to explore how to surrender fully to the circle of life. Instead of trying to divert the river, they now want to follow the flow.
Werken en Dagen [Work and Days] will not be a blind paean to nature and man's surrender to it. Climate change and ecological catastrophe cannot be thought away. FC Bergman makes a utopian but also critical performance, in which - despite the theme - there is explicit room for lightness and hope.
