KATHARSIS
Moments and experiences are temporary but live on within us as memories. Although they leave imprints in our bodies and color our existence, we are often unaware of their transformative power. Katharsis is a search for the effect of those experiences on one's body and personality.
The performers of Katharsis seek to find traces of their pasts by reliving memories. Throughout the performance, experiences slip past the performers and visitors, and the viewer witnesses an attempt to make the intangible tangible. Katharsis invites you to wander through your own past with the performers and embrace the intimacy of your own and each other's humanness.
Katharsis is a six-month journey in which six people over the age of 60 explored the effect of time on their identity. The group's intimacy and process were the focus for six months. What color does a memory have? What sensation can be felt? How do you capture the residue of memory in a movement imprint for yourself and ultimately for an audience? They share the findings of their research in the form of a show moment on the Day of Dance. The participants' personal stories will be shared to spark recognition and belonging in the audience. We invite you to come to see the partial moment which is the conclusion of a six-month journey. The research is part of a larger study conducted by the collective Persona.
