In mid-January, the main hall of NTGent will be transformed into a giant painter's studio. Dozens of watercolour painters (60+) will capture scenes from Miet Warlop's 'Inhale Delirium Exhale'. They will do so while watching a delayed live performance of Warlop's latest show.
“A huge flood of stunning, ever-changing beauty” is how the leading French newspaper Le Monde describes 'Inhale Delirium Exhale'. Miet Warlop's latest performance is normally an energetic hour-long trance, but the version that can be seen at NTGent on 18 January 2026 will last two to three times as long. Accompanied by live music, six performers will perform slowed-down versions of key scenes from the performance in which they brave six kilometres of fabric.
The idea for the slow-motion performance came from Warlop herself. She is preparing a book, 'Inhale Delirium Exhale - Endless Feelings', containing hundreds of watercolours painted by elderly artists (aged 60+). Dozens of them will populate the stalls on 18 January. ‘Each artist is given one rule: the entire surface of their canvas must be painted,’ says Warlop. ‘Even the lightest shade is part of the work.’
Prospective painters can register via this link. Spectators can watch the slow-motion performance from the balconies. Tickets start at 10 euros (pay what you can) via ntgent.be.
