School of Resistance - Blow the system, sow change

In this episode of School of Resistance, a livestream debate series organized by NTGent and IIPM, Andreas Malm, author of the book How to blow up a pipeline, and Marian Donner, author of the book Zelfverwoestingsboek, question the current order of our world by offering an ideology of destruction. What if self-destruction and destruction of property are the only tools left for survival in a hyper-capitalised world that is on the brink of apocalypse? What if destruction isn’t an act of loss, but an act of love?

Andreas Malm is an associate professor of human ecology at Lund University. In May, Verso will release White Skin, Black Fuel: On the Danger of Fossil Fascism, co-authored by Malm and the Zetkin Collective.

Marian Donner is a psychologist and the author of, among others, Zelfverwoestingsboek – Waarom we meer moeten stinken, drinken, bloeden, branden en dansen (2019), an indictment of how the self-help industry by imposing yoga leggings, pedometers and positive thoughts, is trying to keep us in line. In the meantime, the book has also been published in Italy, Germany and Switzerland, France will follow next month.

This event takes place in the Belmundo Festival. The yearly festival in Ghent with a focus on international solidarity takes on 'System change' as a theme for this year.
