Synopsis

With Summit, Ontroerend Goed presents a show about the power and potency of decisions. Analogous to £¥€$  (2017), in which the audience takes on the role of
the billionaire class, Summit  makes the audience step into the shoes of major world leaders. You’ve got impact: your choices at the table determine the next performance. How will you use your power? What are your decisions grounded on? Is the information you’re provided with reliable? Summit  edges on the tipping point between individual and collective interests.

In Summit, the audience is gathered around a large round table. Several spokespeople adress you live and in conference calls. Confronting you with current
issues and dilemmas, as well as future ones. The debates never literally refer to political systems or global issues, yet they do serve as metaphors for differing perspectives on the world. They make you think about your choices, whether about energy, climate or migration. You decide as part of the audience - but also as an individual.

Whatever you decide as an audience member, be aware: it has consequences

In Summit, the audience not only decides how the performance evolves, but also intervenes in future performances. Short-term decisions - often motivated by quick electoral gain - impact the long term. How? Thatgradually becomes clear. Once there is movement in the numbers on the screen. Once the percentages suddenly drop dramatically. Whatever you decide in Summit, it has consequences.

Themes, speakers, set-ups... they change based on the decisions made in previous performances. In this way, a performance with a memory is created. What is decided in Summit Ghent  determines Summit Singapore, which in turn influences Summit Paris, working its way through to New York and Sydney,... Making Summit  a project that connects across borders.

About Ontroerend Goed

Ontroerend Goed makes new work, own creations anchored in the here-and-now, which invite the audience to watch, but also to be part of the performance. Ontroerend Goed delivers intense experiences, built up in the reality of the theatre. Convinced that life goes on during a performance, the group constructs possible realities in which the audience is immersed, asking how we position ourselves as individuals in today’s world.

Under the leadership of artistic director Alexander Devriendt, the collective cherishes the personal contribution and artistic ownership of every employee, from actor to lighting designer, scenographer to concept creator. Ontroerend Goed makes unpredictability its trademark, in both form and content.
