South African children awake the sun during 'Golden Child'

Between 2026 and 2030, Beyond the Spoken and Barbara Raes' ritual "Golden Child" will visit a different continent each year to support children who have suffered a tragic loss in a unique way. At the end of January 2026, children sang to awaken the sun every morning for a week over the coastal town of Plettenberg Bay, right on the Indian Ocean. Photographer Vanessa Brewer captured these beautiful images of the ritual co-organised by local Lunchbox Theatre.
