Bodybodybodybody is a rousing composition lasting almost an hour by Dag Taeldeman and Andrew Van Ostade, who have been working since 2017 on a piece of music that keeps building and repeating.
Electro, dance, guitar, drums and ritual sounds intertwine, drawing inspiration from the tarantella of southern Italy: folk music from Taranto that was once used to drive evil spirits and illness from the body through ecstatic dance.
Soprano Lies Vandewege moves along as an icy, atmospheric presence within this musical flow. Dance and choreography are added by Matteo Sedda, who develops a repetitive, trance-like movement language, drawing on both tradition and contemporary club culture.
In the performance, the composition is performed live by the musicians, whilst Chiara Monteverde moves through the music as a whirling, physical line, the wordless frontwoman of a ritual that seems to reinvent itself time and again.
