17.01.27Countless pines and fir trees are cut down every year, but what do the trees themselves think about it?
Do they queue up every winter, wriggling with excitement, hoping to be chosen? Or do they shrink away in terror before they get chopped down anyway? In Oh oh oh dennenboom, we get to know the trees in the forest.
There’s the Elder — once pulled up, roots and all, but put back later — who is now the prime source of information on all things human. There’s a suicidal tree that really wants to be cut down, but it only has three scrawny twigs, so nobody wants it for a Christmas tree.
Then the chopping season starts. The tragedy begins. This year, the trees have had enough!

It’s brilliant how ‘Oh oh oh fir tree’ gathers up all the clichés of classic children’s theatre and chops them up into a quirky musical that tackles themes such as ecology, fake news, gender diversity, coming out, and age discrimination (Frank Focketyn is made to wear a sign saying ‘unsuitable’ around his neck).
