Mami
Mami
03.04.27A mother brings into the world not only a child, but also a history of love, care and loss that continues to resonate throughout a lifetime.
With MAMI, theatre maker Mario Banushi creates an intimate and evocative performance about the mother-child relationship. Drawing on personal memories, he constructs a ritualistic universe in which care, longing and mourning are closely intertwined.
In Banushi’s poetic imagery, ‘mami’ and ‘mam’ merge: mother and food, love and survival. The stage becomes a landscape of memories in which silence speaks as powerfully as words. The performers move through a world that feels both alienating and familiar, raising questions about the emotional legacies we carry with us.
This performance is part of NTGent’s BUS-KRUIT initiative. International theatre tours have an impact on the environment. To minimise this, NTGent is not staging this top-class production in its own venue, but is instead organising a coach trip to a partner theatre – in this case Théâtre de Liège. Ticket holders can enjoy an introduction to the performance during the coach journey.
