A monumental spectacle inspired by one of the art world's biggest scandals.
In 2004, a couple bought a Rothko painting from art dealer Knoedler for $8.3 million. Years later, it turned out the painting was created by Rothko himself, but by a Chinese maths teacher from Queens.
What determines the value of art? Can a fake painting evoke real emotions?
With an intentional typo in the title, coveted Polish iconoclast Łukasz Twarkowski winks at imitation brands like Adibas and Dolce Banana with Rohtko. After the spectacular QUANTA, he once again shakes up the international theatre landscape.
Rohtko is a large-scale spectacle full of pumping beats, video projections, dynamic set changes and intertwining storylines. One thing is certain: what is true of Rothko's paintings is also true of Twarkowski's so-called “Netflix theatre”. Once you've seen it, you never forget it. Fake or not.
Part of Buskruit. Because touring major productions has an enviromental impact, we don't show this top-notch international performance in our own venues. Ticket buyers are offered an introduction in addition to the bus ride to De Singel (Antwerp).
