Tim Etchells is a British artist, writer and professor born in 1962. He co-founded theatre company Forced Entertainment in 1984 and has been its artistic director ever since. His diverse body of work encompasses performance, visual art and fiction and explores contemporary identity, language and the limits of representation. Using strong but comical means, he creates thought-provoking encounters in public spaces through neon and LED signs.
Etchells has exhibited internationally and published several books, including short fiction collections and a monograph on contemporary performance. His work delves into the unfolding of events, emphasises the dynamic relationship between the work and the viewer, and explores the productive and restrictive nature of language and culture.
