Is een job als (fiets)koerier voor Uber of Deliveroo een laagdrempelige en flexibele job voor mensen die moeilijk toegang vinden tot de arbeidsmarkt?
Of is het een moderne vorm van slavenarbeid zonder arbeidsrechten of sociale zekerheid?
Theatermakers Julie Mughunda en Farbod Fathinejadfard en cinematograaf Yuni Mahieu kruipen voor Ubermens zelf op het zadel, met een koelrugzak aan. Samen met Gentse jongeren uit de artistiek-participatieve trajecten YOUnited9000 en De Toekomstacademie van Victoria Deluxe onderzoeken ze wat het betekent om te moeten overleven in de on-demand-economie. Ze zoomen in op de ongehoorden, de mensen uit de onderbuik van de samenleving die op hun fiets door te stad razen om de aandeelhouders te verrijken. Ook de verbruikers van dit consumptiesysteem van apps en koeriers worden in Ubermens een spiegel voorgehouden.
Fathinejadfard, Mahieu en Mughunda werken met stemkunstenaar-muzikant Joost Maaskant (Maask) en zijn loopstation aan manieren om de sociale fraude te visualiseren en auditief te vertalen, om ons stil te doen staan bij wat het met je doet als je baas een app is.

In UBERmens, theatre-makers dive into the world of meal couriers and the on-demand economy, spotlighting the experiences of both couriers and consumers, and asking the question: What if your boss is an app?
THE PERFORMANCE
Is a job as a (bicycle) courier for Uber or Deliveroo a low-threshold and flexible job for people struggling to enter the labour market? Or is it a modern form of slave labour without labour rights or social security? Theatre makers Julie Mughunda, Farbod Fathinejadfard, Yuni Mahieu and Joost Maaskant crawl on the saddle themselves for their first ever NTGent-production. Together, they explore what it means to have to survive in the on-demand economy.
To what extent do we use services and products where somewhere in the world someone is underpaid? What is the route of our products, our food? We all live on the same planet, but in different realities. We will cycle, deliver, consume lots of lots. What if your boss is an algorithm?
