“Theatre doesn’t last. That’s the whole point. But never say never.
Five players step inside the archive of a theatre that has existed for sixty years as if it were the home of a loved one who had died. Under a thick layer of dust, they discover printed brochures (with and without cancellations), photos of productions, minutes of management meetings, staff files, posters, crumbling models, torn costumes and sleeping characters.
Instead of basing its new creation on repertoire, WOLF WOLF has drawn inspiration from the place where repertoire is stored. A room as a collective memory. A physical space that is going to disappear. All the boxes are being emptied, the costumes sold, and scenery carted off the recycling centre. Only the scripts and photos will be given a new place: in the digital world.
So what do we take along, and what ends up irrevocably consigned to oblivion? This is why five actors decide to learn the entire theatre archive off by heart. After all, memorising lines is something the actors are good at. So that it will never never be lost.
In Nooit Nooit (Never Never), WOLF WOLF explores how much you can actually say with someone else’s words. The production is a jigsaw in which fragmentary elements that don’t seem to have anything to do with each other do end up resonating. Full of wonder, WOLF WOLF performs the archive back to life in this new creation about the art of remembering.
