What does a meaningful life mean in 2027? And how do you pass on something that you yourself would only hesitate to call wisdom?
That question forms the starting point of Dit is water, the speech David Foster Wallace delivered in 2005 at a graduation ceremony at a prestigious American university. Addressing an audience of students on the threshold of adult life, he sought to find words for something almost impossible to grasp.
Twenty-two years later, the members of De Nwe Tijd and DE HOE find themselves at a similar turning point. They are roughly the same age as Wallace was when he gave his speech. In the second part of their trilogy exploring his work and persona, they revisit the same question.
