UBERmens
Is a job as a courier for Uber or Deliveroo an accessible side job for those who want to be free and independent? Or is it a contemporary form of exploitation, the ultimate consequence of our societal obsession with flexibility and self-reliance?
Theatre makers Farbod Fathinejadfard, Joost Maaskant, Yuni Mahieu and Julie Mughunda are crawling on the saddle themselves. Together, for their very first NTGent production, they investigate what it means to survive when you are not paid by the hour but by the meal.
For UBERmens, NTGent gladly handed over the keys of its programming to the neighbors of Victoria Deluxe. The social-artistic culture house received a wildcard and freely chose the makers for this production.
Why do we as consumers eagerly use services and products for which others are grossly underpaid and ill-treated? And is this really our only option? We all live on the same planet but not in the same reality. Why is it so much easier to imagine the end of the world than the end of capitalism?
An on-demand performance about the on-demand economy. Don't forget your smartphone!
