Every Brilliant Thing is the story of a boy who, in an effort to restore hope to his depressed and suicidal mother, begins compiling a list of all the beautiful things that make life worth living.
Small, light-hearted things that serve as a counterbalance to what has become too heavy: dame blanche, kung fu films, staying up late and being allowed to watch TV, the colour yellow.
Despite the heavy theme, Every Brilliant Thing is first and foremost a witty, moving, and comforting tale, set in an intimate setting. An actor, a few props, and a couple of lovely jazz tunes — nothing else.
The solo play Every Brilliant Thing by British playwright Duncan Macmillan has won the hearts of audiences and critics worldwide in recent years, and can now be seen in Flanders for the first time. Tom Dewispelaere takes on the role of the narrator and, together with the audience, sets out to discover what makes life worth living.
A heart-warming story in times of spiritual distress. A little gift for those willing to help unwrap it.
