What does it mean to face one’s own mortality? How do desire, fear, and the future relate to one another when time suddenly takes on a different significance?
With Heartbeats, Nastaran Razawi Khorasani presents an intimate and poignant performance about life and saying goodbye, in which loss and the will to live constantly intersect.
The performance is based on the story of Dian Sahertian-Boers, a young woman who, in the prime of her life, was diagnosed with a terminal illness. Her words reveal a remarkable clarity, openness, and zest for life.
The conversations between Dian and Nastaran form the beating heart of the performance. Heartbeats does not shy away from death, but explores what gives life meaning when it becomes fragile and finite.
Together with her creative team, with whom she also created the acclaimed performances Songs for No One and This is not a dance, Nastaran Razawi Khorasani creates a documentary, physical and visual performance.
“In this life, so shaped by ideas of growth and malleability, there is little room for the inevitable end. Is my own fear of dying a fear of the great Nothing? In search of answers, I met her.” – Nastaran
