'ONE SONG - HDT IV' voted best performance in the Netherlands

| 17 September 2023
The performance 'ONE SONG - Histoire(s) du Théâtre IV' by Miet Warlop, NTGent & Irene Wool was awarded best performance of the past season at the Dutch Theatre Festival.

ONE SONG, director Miet Warlop's "rocking primal scream", premiered at the leading Festival d'Avignon in southern France in the summer of 2022. The performance, a production of NTGent and the fourth part in the NTGent series Histoire(s) du Théâtre, was the sensation there and received tons of praise from audiences and press, including in The Guardian and The New York Times which voted ONE SONG one of the very best European performances of 2022.

In June, the French professional reviewers' associations awarded ONE SONG with the Prix de la Critique. Just recently, ONE SONG  won another prize, this time in the Netherlands, where the jury of the VSCD awards chose it as the best performance of the past season. ONE SONG  was awarded the VSCD Mime/Performance Prize 2022-2023 there during the local Theatre Festival.

From the jury report: "This absurdist cross between a pop concert and a sports competition is a poignant protest against the rushing pace of life and everything it demands of a human being. The murmuring stadium speaker, the lone male cheerleader and the unison choreography of the cheering crowd in the sports stands are witty and alienating (...) Very impressive how a performance full of raw life energy expresses hushed sorrow and heartbreaking despair."

On 31 January and 1 February 2024, ONE SONG - Histoire(s) du Théâtre IV  can be seen again at NTGent Schouwburg. The show is currently on tour in Europe and the UK. Still until 1 October, Miet Warlop & co. will play a series of a total of twelve (!) performances at the Theátre du Rond Point in Paris. This will be followed by a tour of the UK. Leipzig, Vienna, Mons and Brussels follow later this year.
