✨ Prestigious awards and nominations for NTGent performances and artists ✨

| 28 June 2023
Several NTGent performances and artists have recently received prestigious awards or nominations.

💎 To begin with, Swiss director Milo Rau, Artistic Program Responsible for the NTGent season 23-24, has been awarded a star on the Sibiu Walk of Fame on the 1st of July by Constantin Chiriac, president of the Romanian Sibiu International Theatre Festival. Rau receives the award in recognition of his ‘incredible career as a theatre director and author, writer, film director in Europe and around the world,’ according to the festival president. The accolade has been awarded since 2013 for ‘outstanding achievements in the cultural and artistic field in Sibiu and worldwide’.

💎 The performance ONE SONG - Histoire du Théâtre IV  by Miet Warlop, NTGent and Irene Wool vzw has been selected by the French professional association of critics as the best performance of the past season in the category Dance. Every year since 1963, the Syndicat de la Critique in France has awarded the Prix de la Critique at the Palmarès ceremony. The prizes go to performances and artists who have impressed in the past season. Miet Warlop accepted her prize at the Philharmonie in Paris on 19 June, along with actors Joppe Tanghe, Wietse Tanghe, Karin Tanghe and Melvin Slabbinck.

ONE SONG - HDT IV  is also one of the five nominees for the VSCD Mime and Performance Prize 2023 in the Netherlands. This award goes annually to a person or group that has made a significant contribution to one of the genres. "Very impressive how a performance full of raw life energy expresses hushed sadness and heartbreaking despair," writes the VSCD jury.

💎 Princess Isatu Hassan Bangura & NTGent's production Great Apes of the West Coast  received fine recognition as well. Bangura is one of five nominees for the Actors Guild Theatre Awards 2023 in the under-35 category. In the over-35 category, NTGent actress Lien Wildemeersch is nominated for the performance Jackie, her debut as a theatre maker.

Want to see for yourself why these performances are so worthwhile? All three can be seen again at NTGent during season 23-24. Lien Wildemeersch is also part of the cast of the new NTGent performance Medea's Children, directed by Milo Rau to be seen from April 2024.
