In a world where the human condition is increasingly outsourced to systems, algorithms, and self-reflection, two bodies ask themselves once again what it means to exist.
In Artificial by Nature, theatre maker and actor Yannick Noomen and creator, actor, and composer Annelinde Bruijs take on the roles of two humanoid robots. From this artificial position, they construct a musical composition in which philosophy, voice, and body intertwine. Life is celebrated by two beings who are simultaneously trying to understand and imitate it.
Yannick Noomen and Annelinde Bruijs start from fundamental questions: what does it mean to be human, what do we stand for every day, and why do we do what we do? Inspired by the ideas of Helmuth Plessner, the human being is seen as a creature that both experiences and observes itself, always slightly shifted in relation to itself.
In this minimal opera, humanity becomes an exercise in artificiality. Through language, technology, and sound, the performers find their way through an existence that is not fixed but constantly in the making.
Artificial by Nature thus becomes a musical ode to becoming itself.
