ENTRECÔTE
- " Vous désirez ? "
- " Un filet tendre, s'il vous plaît. "
- " Avec ceci ? "
After PLAY (which received rave reviews as well as a Klara award), Liesa Van der Aa and One Trick Pony are making ENTRECÔTE, the brand new, second part of their triptych Court of Choice about power. Whereas PLAY depicted the power game on a tennis court, ENTRECÔTE chooses a butcher's shop as an arena for the whims of consumers and producers.
ENTRECÔTE is music, performance, Mingus, Prince, Justin Timberlake and Bach, a theatrical Tetris game in which the position between butcher and customer is played at the cutting edge from its complex relationships and contradictions. From behind a generously filled meat counter, this musical happening dissects capitalist society in the form of a dark, eroticising, and easily compact tableau vivant. Subtle turmoil, lurking emotion, and explosions of ecstasy with the slaughter and splendour of shiny, pink meat. In short, a performance about man's unfathomable and irresistible will, about the source of his desires and urges.
The performance combines 3 languages. French is employed as the language of taste, of gastronomy, poetry, bourgeoisie, and decadence. English as the language of advertising, Burger King, money, porn, and capitalism. Dutch (!) as Flemish primitive, as a peasant in a field, as nostalgia: a yellowed painting by Bruegel.
