"Most of the large international festivals, including France’s Festival d’Avignon, Adelaide Festival, Berlin’s Theatertreffen and the Edinburgh International Festival, were able to take place in something resembling their previous forms. Critical highlights from Avignon included Miet Warlop’s One Song, though Simon Falguières’ 13-hour long A Nest of Ashes was less well-received, while the standout show from the EIF was Ivo van Hove’s gruelling staging of Hanya Yanagihara’s A Little Life, an English version of which will open in the West End next year. The prolific Van Hove also directed Isabelle Huppert in The Glass Menagerie at Paris’ Odeon-Théâtre de l’Europe."
