There are three key moments in that festive weekend. With Lam Gods, Milo Rau brings citizens of Gent on stage in a re-enactment of Belgium’s most famous painting, in which he starts with the question, who might be a contemporary Adam and Eve today, who a crusader or a just judge? With Not Another Diva, the Congolese choreographer Faustin Linyekula and the South-African voice artist/actress Hlengiwe Lushaba have the Belgian premiere of their newest production. And with Ghost writer & the broken hand break, Miet Warlop’s newest creation also premieres. But two world premieres and one Belgian premiere are not enough for one weekend. We will also give insight into the work of artists and groups that will work at NTGent in the future, such as Luk Perceval, Monster Truck and Renzo Martens with exhibitions, videos, installations and small performances. Action Zoo Humain will start their Flemish Pavilion, Milo Rau will present his interactive installation about The Congo Tribunal. All venues of NTGent, Schouwburg, Minnemeers and Arca will be open – a big interactive exhibition about what a city theatre can be, including daily keynote lectures about art, politics and engagement in a globalized world.
In front of the theatre, we will built a Box of Truth – a room with a lie detector and actors and professional interrogators finding out the truth, talking about faith and honesty, interrogating invited people such as politicians as well as normal citizens. What is a lie, what is truth, where does reality end and theatre start? At night, after having lived through the theatre shows, installations and truth-machines, of course, there will be a party. Celebrating the new NTGent – a city theatre for everybody and everything!
