El Kharraz Alami’s new production The Waves  is not only based on the book by Virginia Woolf, but also on essays by writers including Clarissa Pinkola Estes and Audre Lorde. The Waves  is a ritual, a manifesto and an immersive experience centred on feminine beauty, pain and vulnerability.

With four female actors, El Kharraz Alami explores how deeply internalised experiences of oppression, and the abuse of power can be transformed into creative power. The Waves  presents a physical space in which we can dare to look traumas in the eye, celebrate pleasure, bless the body and share the power of creation. Expect an urgent and ruthless theatre experience.

BIOGRAPHY

Khadija El Kharraz Alami (photo) is an actress, theatre maker and performer. During her studies at the Utrecht School of the Arts, she already attracted attention with her first performances. The press has praised her powerful acting style and overwhelming stage personality. In 2018, her play Nu ben ik Medea  won both the KBC Jongtheaterprijs and the audience award at the Theater aan Zee festival in Ostend. The reprise tour of this solo will resume in 2022 with performances in the Netherlands, Belgium and Sweden.
