In the highly acclaimed book The Years (French: Les Années, 2008) by the Nobel Prize winner Annie Ernaux, the writer considers her own life between 1941 and 2006. Sketched against the backdrop of a changing Zeitgeist, the result is both an impressive portrait of a woman and an eminently recognisable picture of postwar Western history. 

Ernaux wanted to gain an understanding of her passage on earth, the time that had passed through her, and realised that she was not alone in this. Her highly personal life resembles all of our lives. Likewise, in the theatre, De jaren (The Years) will become a festival of recognition.
